HandBrake is a general-purpose, open-source, cross-platform video converter software application. It is a free Converter for Mac, which can convert MTS or M2TS camcorder videos to MP4 or MKV (only two output options provided.) It's quite easy to convert MTS or M2TS files with Handbrake. But it’s a bit complicated to set the video settings. For example, if you want to convert your MTS or M2TS movie to MP4 to play on your iPhone, you have to adjust the output video settings by yourself according to iPad’s required video format. And Handbrake has already preset some output video formats for iPhone, iPod, Apple TV and more which you can choose when it’needed. The preset parameter of Handbrake is a bit complicated for amateur users to set the video settings.

Step 1 Download and install Handbrake on Mac and then activate it on the current system. The following image will show up.

Step 2 Input mts/mats video file by hitting button to select.Or, you can choose directly from the pop-out window.

Step 3 Set output video format.
On Profile list, open its drop-down list to select a needed video format

Note: If you want to set the video and audio parameters, such as Video Condec, Video Quality, Framerate, etc, you can set the corresponding parameter in the following window.

Step 4 Save output file
On the bottom the converter, there is Destination column. Hit icon and select a folder to save your ouput file from the pop-out window.

Step 5 Start to convert
After finishing the above steps, hit button to convert mts/m2ts to mp4 or mkv formats.
